Leading London agency Douglas & Gordon returns to profit

first_imgDouglas & Gordon has returned to profit after making a loss last year and revealed details of its recently-launched ‘hybrid’ model. The 19-branch and high-profile London agency made an operating loss of £678,000 during 2017/2018 but has reported a profit of £438,000 for its latest 12 months of reported trading.Douglas & Gordon has also revealed that the company’s hybrid ‘Broker Only’ model is beginning to deliver results and that customers have ‘responded well’ to the concept. This has helped Douglas & Gordon extend its geographic reach without having to open more branches. This improvement in its financial performance comes despite another tough year for its sales division and significant disruption of the lettings market by the fees ban and lower landlord activity as mortgage interest tax relief has been phased out.“Although results are not yet at the desired level, the focus on customer service, revenue generation and cost management [have] continued to yield results,” says the firm’s Chairman Michael Hodgson (left).Hodgson has also pinned the company’s return to profit on its branches’ longer opening hours compared to ‘most of its competition’ and its superior customer service offering.Overall revenue increased to £16.7 million helped by a 4% uplift in lettings revenue but a much smaller increase in sales revenue.Michael Hodgson hybrid douglas and gordon December 17, 2019Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion? Kitchen Dwellers Celebrate Their New Album With A Smokin’ 4/20 Release Party In Boulder [Photos/Videos]

first_img“Mountain” > “Ebenezer’s Winter”Part & ParcelKind Country Load remaining images Bozeman, Montana favorites Kitchen Dwellers made it crystal clear last night that Boulder, Colorado and the Fox Theatre are a second home. The self-coined “Galaxygrass” quartet arrived in town last night to celebrate the release of their new album, Ghost in the Bottle. Produced by A.G. Lunsford and Leftover Salmon’s Andy Thorn, Ghost in the Bottle is a high-paced bluegrass adventure from start to finish, with different tasteful new numbers that are sure to be setlist staples now.The night kicked off on a high-note, appropriately with the Dillard-Hartford-Dillard classic, “Two Hits and the Joint Turned Brown,” to celebrate the nation’s coveted weed holiday in the ganja capitol of the country. The Fox Theatre was packed and bouncing, on a holiday when most are couch-locked, watching cartoons or playing the newest Call of Duty video game. The first part of the show was an enormous sandwich, hopping in and out of “Two Hits and the Joint Turned Brown,” Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s classic “Lonesome Fiddle Blues,” and The Toye’s “Smoke Two Joints,” that lasted for well over a half-hour! The high energy was reflective from both the band and the crowd, and the Kitchen Dwellers kept the 625 capacity room on their toes. The four powerhouse string musicians busted out the first song of the night off their new album, appropriately with the tune “Ghost in the Bottle.”  The banjo-heavy song makes you feel right at home in the mountains with its twangy strings and incredible vocals by banjo guru Torrin Daniels. Torrin’s voice carries such emotion and power, creating a shared sense of love and unity to any crowd I’ve seen him sing to. With Torrin Daniels leading most songs on vocals, the accompaniment of mandolinist Shawn Swain, bassist Joe Funk, and guitarist Max Davies blending in harmonies creates an oh-so-sweet sound. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention . . . the boys whipped out a “Harry Hood” tease at the end of the song, leaving people hooting and hollering for more galaxygrass.Other Ghost in the Bottle tunes, “Visions of More”, “Mountain”, and “Ebenezer’s Winter,” made an appearance at the album-release party. The band chose to sandwich “Ebenezer’s Winter” into a soulful “Mountain,” a tune that any Kitchen Dwellers fan hopes to hear the Bozeman boys play. Another huge surprise of the night and a debut for the band was a cover of Van Morrison’s elegant “Dweller on the Threshold,” seemingly fitting for a bunch of “Dwellers” to play. With a roaring audience begging for more, the Kitchen Dwellers ended the night with “Drunken Poet’s Dream,” leaving it impossible to do anything else but jump around and run like an antelope out of control for the last tune of the evening. The band heads to Denver tonight for a continuous celebration of Ghost in the Bottle’s release at the Bluebird Theater. I highly advise heading down to Denver tonight if you’re in the area and seeing this extremely special and talented quartet blaze through their new album. The Fox Theatre 4/20 celebration was a party that I will remember for years to come. Pakistan success sees Windies World Cup hopes fade further

first_imgLONDON, England (CMC) – Any hopes West Indies harboured of overhauling Pakistan and clinching the crucial eighth spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day rankings have all but disappeared as the Asian side have surged to sixth position following their capture of the ICC Champions Trophy here Sunday. In the latest rankings released yesterday by cricket’s world governing body, Pakistan gained four points to jump from eighth to sixth on 95 points, now ahead of seventh-placed Bangladesh on 94 and Sri Lanka, who have slipped to eighth on 93 points.Pakistan, who had lingered at eighth in the world rankings in recent times, convincingly beat powerhouse India in the final at the Oval by 180 runs to lift the title regarded as the mini World Cup.With the success, Pakistan have further enhanced their chances of automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup in England while West Indies slipped further behind in their quest to also seal a direct spot at the tournament.Ironically, Pakistan had edged West Indies for the final spot in the Champions Trophy because of their eighth place ranking.West Indies remain in ninth spot on 77 points in the latest rankings following a disappointing 1-1 draw in the recent three-match series against ICC Associate side Afghanistan. They are now faced with the task of closing a 16-point gap on Sri Lanka by the September 30 cut-off date for automatic qualification for the World Cup. Hosts England and the remaining top seven sides in the rankings by that date will earn automatic qualification. The Windies face India in a five-match series starting Friday at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and take on fourth-ranked England in another five-match series in September. If they lose these series and subsequently fail to qualify automatically, the Caribbean side will enter a 10-team qualifier scheduled for next year, to determine the final two World Cup berths.South Africa have retained top spot in the newest rankings on 119 points, two ratings points ahead of Australia with India lying one point back in third.Latest ICC One-Day International rankings:1. LeBron James explains Lakers’ turnaround after ‘reckless’ start vs. Heat: ‘My teammates got on my ass’

first_imgThe four-time MVP was transformed in the second half, though, finishing with 28 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds as the Western Conference leaders won a thriller to move to 23-3.James revealed some frank words from his colleagues were justified. Our General  pic.twitter.com/yCThgBXyC5— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) December 14, 2019″Well, we were down today because of me,” James told ESPN. “I was reckless. My teammates got on my ass. They told me you’re playing too passive, thinking about the game way too much instead of reading and reacting and doing what you do. Anthony Davis got on me, Boogie Cousins got on me and they told me to just be me. LeBron James said being told he was “too passive” by his Lakers teammates in a “reckless” first-half display fueled him to raise his game in a 113-110 victory over the Heat. The Lakers inflicted the first home defeat of the NBA season on the Heat, but a 13th straight road win looked unlikely when they trailed by 14 points in the first half. James dropped well short of his usual sky-high standards in that opening half, turning the ball over seven times and missing seven of his 11 shots. “So I was like, ‘Thank God we have two halves in a basketball game,’ where I can flush the first one, and then come back and try to help us win.”Davis also played a major part in the Lakers’ turnaround, racking up 33 points and 10 rebounds. “We knew it was going to be a dog fight, that’s what it was tonight and the game was fun,” Davis said. “These are the types of games we live for.”last_img read more
