Sincerely,Peter BiancamanoHoboken Board of Education TrusteeCounty Committee Person Ward 2, District 1 Dear Editor:I probably have not spent my early adult years like most millennials. At 18, I ran for public office for the first time, and was elected to county committee, a position I still hold 14 years later. At 25, I ran to become a member of the Hoboken Board of Education, winning and becoming the youngest member ever to be elected to the board.Six and a half years volunteering for any unpaid position can be a stressful/tedious endeavor, only if you don’t love what you are doing. I absolutely loved every minute being a Hoboken Board of Education trustee and although it sometimes (okay, most times) caused more stress than my full time job, it was all worth it. I have had to work with many superintendents during my tenure. I can say with great ease, leaving this board, that I feel very comfortable with Dr. Johnson at the helm. I know that she appreciated my constant questions at meetings. I was always dissecting items on our agenda, and her thorough responses not only satisfied my questions, but they communicated to the public how the Hoboken Schools are being run. This is how a relationship between a board member and superintendent should be, honest, mutually respectful and mindful at all times that we are answerable to the people of this community.Six years on the Hoboken Board of Education: consistently voting against tax increases, updating the public on the unsightly scaffolding at Brandt school, ensuring that we lowered legal costs, spearheading the new turf at the High School and being instrumental in hiring one of the best superintendents in the state. But reflecting on my time, I feel I have best represented the concerns of the broad range of people in our community by asking the tough and thoughtful questions.I have heard many times during my years on the board: being a board member is the most thankless job anyone could have. This is why I think it’s very important we recognize all of those who are currently serving and have served on the board. We all volunteer our time, time that could be spent with our families or loved ones but we served because we are all passionate about our beliefs. I also know that I can leave with my head held high. The amount of support I have received the last few weeks is humbling and appreciated. The Hoboken Board of Education is filled with great teachers, administrators and staff members, always a bragging point of mine while attending New Jersey School Board Association meetings. Their time, dedication and commitment given should be commended. With hard work, determination and perseverance, even a deli-boy could have made so many impactful decisions benefitting our community. I feel as if my service to community is not over but needs a much needed break. When one door closes, another opens.
3 August 2012Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities Lulu Xingwana has called for “gender-responsive” budgeting to be used as a tool for reducing inequality and advancing women’s empowerment.“We are fully aware that budgets have been instrumental in perpetuating gender biases globally,” Xingwana said during the launch of South Africa’s Women’s Month in Pretoria on Wednesday. “We also know that budgets can be instrumental in transforming and redressing existing gender inequalities.”Earlier this year, the department launched the Women and Budgeting Initiative in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation. The aim was to reflect on the budgeting process and economic frameworks and how these could constrain or promote the development and implementation of policies aimed at empowering women and vulnerable groups.South Africans will commemorate Women’s Month under the theme “56 Years of Women United against Poverty, Inequality and Unemployment”.The government declared August Women’s Month as a tribute to the thousands of women who marched, on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of apartheid’s hated Pass Laws to women.Xingwana said South Africa had registered significant progress in women’s empowerment and gender equality.“An array of measures, introduced since 1994 to promote women empowerment and uphold gender equality, have drastically improved the position and conditions of women in our country. Women occupy influential positions in government and play an important role in decision-making processes.”Xingwana pointed out, however, that women still bore a disproportionate burden of the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment.“Women continue to be marginalised and discriminated against in terms of economic opportunities, the labour market as well as access to land, credit and finance.”Xingwana said the process of developing the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill was at an advanced stage, and it would be tabled before Cabinet during the 2012/13 financial year. The Bill will help enforce compliance in both the government and the private sector.Source: SANews.gov.za

They now face a tough test against a confident Arsenal side. Former United chief Kenyon said: “If you put me in charge of a great club and you needed to appoint a manager, my first thought would be José Mourinho.“He’s intelligent, he’s relevant and has vast experience. He isn’t outdated. I just think he needs the right club. I’m sure that you’ll see Mourinho be a part of a great club again.”He added: “The key is to give him the adequate structure and organisation to make sure he’s a part of everything.“I was the first to express my disappointment when he left United because I think he could have been a part of that great leadership structure.“No one better than him knows what United represents. José is far from being an irrelevant and outdated manager.”
Liverpool legend Fowler has pop at Man Utd mentalityby Paul Vegas5 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool legend Robbie Fowler has enjoyed a pop at the mentality of Manchester United’s players.Ahead of today’s clash at Old Trafford, Fowler wrote for the Mirror: “There is something different about this Manchester United v Liverpool clash.”Something significant, something worrying for every United fan.”If I can borrow a phrase from Gary Neville, it feels a tiny bit like The Dog & Duck v… well, the Champions of Europe.”By that I mean simply that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team go into the game KNOWING they are an inferior side. He knows it, his players know it.”As a professional, you just know. You know when an opponent is quality and better than you. I’m not saying that means they’ll inevitably win. But you still know.”And here’s the thing.”When I was at Liverpool, we never felt inferior.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

WEEK▲▼PICK▲▼WIN PROB.▲▼PICK▲▼WIN PROB.▲▼WINNER▲▼READERS’ NET PTS▲▼ The Dallas Cowboys were overrated going into Week 4Top 10 NFL teams by current Elo and their chances of making the playoffs 3BAL70BAL71JAX-4.3– 81557Seattle4852+4– 3SEA53SEA54TEN-3.5– 3DEN55DEN70BUF-20.6– Most of Dallas’s metrics are roughly the same as they were last season, with the major exception of the passing game (and some faulty special teams). Last year, in QB Dak Prescott’s first NFL season, he led the Cowboys to the sixth-most expected points added (EPA) through the air of any offense in football — a highly effective complement to Dallas’s second-ranked running game. But although the Cowboys still rank among the top five in rushing EPA, Prescott and the passing offense has fallen to 19th in the league in EPA. Prescott’s traditional numbers aren’t bad, but he’s all but stopped throwing the deep ball and the Dallas receivers are picking up very few yards after the catch. The result has been an aerial attack that struggles to move the chains, keeping the Cowboys from scoring as many points as they should. The bad news doesn’t stop there for Dallas. The Cowboys face a tough road if they hope to win the division, because even though the Giants are floundering, the rest of the NFC East has played better than we predicted in the preseason. And based on FiveThirtyEight’s Week 5 NFL Elo ratings, Dallas has the toughest remaining schedule of any team in its division; the Cowboys’ opponents have an average Elo rating of 1525, while the teams New York is facing average 1514, Washington’s opponents average 1499, and the rest of Philadelphia’s schedule averages 1496.The Cowboys and Eagles’ next five games could further increase the gap between those two teams — the Eagles currently have a one-game lead. Dallas’ next five opponents have an average Elo of 1549, and the Cowboys will face three of those teams on the road. Compare that with Philadelphia’s next five games — in which the Eagles’ opponents average an Elo of 1490 and only one game will be on the road — and the Cowboys’ playoff hopes could be essentially done by Week 10.FiveThirtyEight vs. the crowdWeeks 3 and 4 in our NFL prediction game — in which we invite you to pick football games and try to outsmart our Elo algorithm — were triumphant victories for machine over man. Over a combined 32 games, our Elo model beat you, the readers, by a whopping 146.2 points! You can blame the New York Jets for your two largest net losses. The Jets upset the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 — which both our model and the readers got wrong — and this weekend the Jets pulled out an overtime victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, which our Elo picked right and you readers got wrong. (Note: We don’t blame you for not picking the Jets.)Despite Elo correctly predicting the winners in only two more games than readers through Week 4, our model holds a lead of 181.7 net points. This is because our game rewards not just correct picks, but also how much confidence the model and our readers had in the outcome. For example, despite our bashing the Cowboys here, both Elo and the readers predicted Dallas would win at home over the Rams this past weekend. Though we both predicted incorrectly, the readers netted 5.5 points on that game because Elo had more confidence in Dallas winning (78 percent) than readers did (72 percent). 4MIN57MIN51DET+4.2– 4SEA69SEA79SEA+3.1– 4TB63TB61TB-4.5– 3PIT76PIT84CHI-14.1– ELOTEAMWEEK 4WEEK 5CHANGE 21646New England8270-12– 3CAR72CAR66NO+5.8– 4NYJ59JAX61NYJ-22.6– 3NE82NE89NE+0.6– 31627Atlanta8772-15– 4PHI60PHI60PHI-2.2– 41614Pittsburgh7386+13– We’re a quarter of the way through the NFL season, and Week 4 brought its fair share of surprises. The Buffalo Bills upset the Atlanta Falcons on the road, a last-second Carolina Panthers field goal delivered Tom Brady’s New England Patriots their second home loss of the year, and Andy Dalton was actually good.Through four weeks, very few teams are following the course predicted for them at the season’s outset. Many pundits thought a Los Angeles team would be sneaky dangerous this season — they just didn’t think it would be the Rams. Others assumed a New York team would start 0-4 — they just didn’t pick the Giants. But in a season marked by surprises, the most perplexing start may belong to the Dallas Cowboys. After Week 1, Dallas had every reason for optimism: The expected suspension of running back Ezekiel Elliott was delayed by the courts, and the team that was 13-3 last year was fresh off a dominating win over the New York Giants. Dallas’ Elo rating climbed, and many analysts (most of them in Texas) viewed the Cowboys as a surefire Super Bowl team. As it turned out, the Giants are terrible and Dallas would spend the next three weeks showing that it was not the same team it was last year — even with Elliott in uniform.“America’s Team” had an Elo advantage of 160 points heading into Sunday’s game with the Los Angeles Rams, meaning they were favorites to win the game by about six points.1Every 25 Elo points is equivalent to 1 point in an actual game. The Cowboys lost and fell to 2-2 and, in the process, saw their chances of making the playoffs drop to 40 percent — their lowest of the season — according to our 2017 NFL Predictions. For Dallas — which dropped to a tie for eighth2With the Seattle Seahawks in our power rankings — a 4-in-10 chance of making the playoffs with three-quarters of the season left to play may not sound all that bad. But compared with the rest of the teams in the top 10, the Cowboys are noticeably out of place. 4NO53NO55NO-0.4– 3ATL53ATL62ATL+5.3– 3MIA55MIA70NYJ-20.8– 3LAR53LAR61LAR+4.2– 51601Green Bay6468+4– 3GB75GB84GB+2.1– 3OAK51OAK65WSH-19.0– 4KC78KC79KC-2.3– 4GB82GB83GB-1.8– 61578Denver4760+13– Elo’s dumbest (and smartest) picks of Weeks 3 and 4Average difference between points won by readers and by Elo in Week 3 and 4 matchups in FiveThirtyEight’s NFL prediction game 11687Kansas City91%93%+2– 4HOU55TEN52HOU-9.9– 4NE78NE83CAR-9.9– 3KC74KC76KC-1.7– FIVETHIRTYEIGHT PLAYOFF ODDS BEFORE … OUR PREDICTIONREADERS’ PREDICTION 4ATL77ATL80BUF-7.0– 4DAL78DAL72LAR+5.5– 4PIT55PIT60PIT+1.7– 4DEN63DEN57DEN-8.1– 71565Detroit4863+15– 3MIN57TB53MIN-12.1– 4ARI81ARI77ARI-4.2– 81557Dallas6140-21– 3IND76IND59IND-15.3– 3PHI66PHI68PHI-1.1– 101550Philadelphia5563+8– 3ARI55%DAL59%DAL+9.8– 4CIN60CIN59CIN-3.1–
Returning from the glitz and glamour of Madison Square Garden, the Ohio State men’s basketball team returns home to the Schottenstein Center to play the Lipscomb Bisons. The Buckeyes return from New York City with a split in their games against two ranked teams, the North Carolina Tarheels and the California Golden Bears, in the 2K Sports Classic.Lipscomb brings an 0-3 record to Columbus. Having given up 92 points to Tennessee Tech in its last matchup, Bisons coach Scott Sanderson points to his team’s defense.“We can talk and analyze it and turn it upside down, but the bottom line is that we are not good enough defensively,” Sanderson said.OSU (3-1) will look to build upon its play in NYC and ride the momentum that two good showings against Top 15 teams provided. “It was a great win for the team and a great win for the program and it gives us good momentum,” junior guard Evan Turner said about the Bucks’ 76-70 win over Cal. “It has been a good stretch of games. I’m just trying to play hard.”Turner continues to score points and grab rebounds at an electrifying pace. The California game marked the fourth straight game in which he has posted double digits in both points and rebounds. OSU coach Thad Matta knows that a balanced team is best, but also understands when it is time to ride his best horse.“He is a guy we have to lean on at times to kind of carry us through,” Matta said of Turner.Working center Dallas Lauderdale and his injured right hand back into the lineup has also proven a benefit to the team. Lauderdale scored eight points and had seven blocked shots against the Golden Bears.“Dallas has been inching his way back in,” Matta said. “He gives us a different look both offensively and defensively.”OSU will tune up for next week’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge tonight against Lipscomb and Saturday against St. Francis University.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is currently preparing himself and the players from the team to end the reign of the defending champions Real Madrid. The faceoff will be in Kiev on Saturday. The Reds, as expected, are heading into the game as the underdogs for the title. However, everything is to be expected as an outcome as Salah’s debut season for Liverpool has been an amazing surprise to everyone, who is a part of the football world anyhow. If the Reds were indeed to snatch the European title from Real Madrid, Zidane would be the first to leave. According to the Express, Klopp is claimed to be the top choice replacement for the Frenchman.Report: Origi cause Klopp injury concerns George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Divock Origi injury in today’s game against Newcastle is a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.Perhaps with one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Italy…Ever since joining Real after Rafa Benitez in January 2016, Zidane has been achieving successes one after the other – he has led the team to winning two back to back Champions League titles and the La Liga the previous season as well. However, Real Madrid are know as a team who do not appreciate trophyless seasons and if Liverpool win, Zidane could leave as easy as he won the successive Champions League titles and Jurgen Klopp is currently the next in line.
