Ambusley declares win as birthday gift to daughter

first_imgWESTERN BUREAU:Montego Bay United FC captain Dwayne Ambusley netted his first goal for almost three seasons and only his second goal for the club, as they eased past Tivoli Gardens FC 2-0 in Monday night’s Red Stripe Premier League football fixture at Montego Bay Sports Complex.Afterwards, he dedicated the victory to his daughter, Shanice, who was celebrating her birthday, noting that he had promised something special and the goal was a fitting gift.”I am delighted with the win because I kept my promise to my daughter to score tonight and get the win,” the midfielder said.”It is my first goal in about three years so it’s special on that account. But the most important thing is that we won tonight,” added Ambusley.The win lifted the former champions level to the top on 37 points with Portmore United and two clear of defending champions Arnett Gardens FC.Ambusley’s goal, which gave his team a 12th minute lead, was rather fortuitous, as his intended cross swerved away from Tivoli’s goalkeeper Edsel Scott and into the upper far corner of the goalgoalscoring formMercurial striker Dino Williams also continued his fine goalscoring form, when he scored in the 28th minute in a dominant first half of football from the home side, in front of a partisan crowd.Ambusley said they were determined to get the victory and heaped praise on Williams for his role in the team’s success so far this season.”We talked about it before the game that we needed to win this one and that Dino keeps scoring and it worked out that way. As team captain, I can’t ask for nothing more.”MoBay’s goalkeeper had a relatively quiet night between the posts, but was called to duty with a superb one-handed save to deny Jamoy Sibbles an equaliser at the 18th minute.Williams was netting his League-leading 14th goal for the season, but the hard-running striker was taken off in second half action because of a lingering hamstring problem.Tivoli’s coach, Christopher Bender, said his side’s struggle will have to be addressed with additional talent in the transfer window.”We are not playing with enough confidence at the moment and of course the team missed Junior Flemmings greatly. first_imgJamaican sport has reached a pinnacle of excellence which all Jamaicans have a collective responsibility to maintain and sustain.That was the message from Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, who was guest speaker at Friday night’s RJR Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards Ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.”This extraordinary nation has made a most incredible contribution to sport,” Sir Hilary told the audience at the ceremony to honour Jamaica’s best in sport for 2015.Sir Hilary, who has an affinity to cricket in particular, noted that Jamaican sport history was unique in its style, quality, and performance, and its capacity to establish gender equality in the process.”Jamaica has done what many countries have aspired to do in many areas, but especially in sporting culture. This phenomenal achievement has been recognised and it has been respected,” he said.”There is a tradition of excellence in Jamaica, and this excellence has to be maintained and it has to be sustained. It must be institutionalised and it must be industrialised,” the Barbados-born educator said.some societies”If it is not institutionalised and industrialised it will be lost. I have seen how many nations have lost that excellence they have achieved,” Sir Hilary added.Sir Hilary used West Indies cricket as an example of a sport which had at one stage been excellent but later deteriorated dramatically.”In some societies it is considered a crime to lose that excellence,” he said.”This must never happen to Jamaican sport. I don’t wish to be writing in the closing stages of my career about the fall of Jamaican sport,” he added.”Every child in Jamaica must grow to see that things are designed in Jamaica, patented … exported from Jamaica, representing the legends in Jamaican sport. We are here to celebrate this monument. Mathews testifies over complaint about match-fixing

first_imgCOLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP):Sri Lanka cricket captain Angelo Mathews testified before police yesterday over a complaint that some national team players have been approached by a person with an offer to fix matches for money.Financial crimes investigators interviewed Mathews for several hours.”They wanted to know, as the captain, if I knew anything in detail. I answered all the questions,” Mathews said outside the police station. “We all want this game to be clean. Whoever has done something wrong, we want them brought before the court.”Mathews said the inquiry was only about the match-fixing approaches reported by players, not against the players themselves.”The cricketers felt really uncomfortable in the last few days because they were the ones who came forward and reported this to the ICC (International Cricket Council) and SLC,” Mathews said.The questioning came a day after Sri Lanka Cricket, the sport’s local governing body, suspended senior fast bowling coach Anusha Samaranayake for links with a practice bowler who is said to have brought the offers.Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath and opening batsman Kusal Perera reported the approaches to the authorities.Samaranayake, who has been working with the fast bowling academy for many years and helped in the development of many leading bowlers, has been suspended for two months pending an inquiry. Williams stops Sharapova

The body needs nutrients in order to prevent malnutrition, which is a state of unhealthy tissues and organs due to faulty or inadequate nutrition. Nutrients required by the body can be found in the six food groups. A healthy combination of foods from these six food groups will provide us with the energy we need to live, grow, and repair ourselves. The food groups are: Staples Legumes Fruits Vegetables Fats and oils Foods from animals Nutrients are the substances in foods that are absorbed into the blood and transported to cells throughout the body. These nutrients are as follows: This is a substance called cellulose, which is found in plants. Fibre is part of a healthy diet and is found in vegetables, whole grain foods, and other cereals. It cannot be digested by the body but, it prevents constipation and bowel cancer. It absorbs poisonous waste from digested foods. This is needed for cell building, blood making, and for muscle and tissue repair and restoration. Proteins cannot be stored and are mainly found in the food from animals group. Examples are meat, dairy products, poultry, eggs, seafood, and legumes (peas, nuts, beans). The body can also use protein as energy. Proteins This is a source of energy. Carbs are found in sweet and starchy foods, i.e., the staple food group. Active sports persons need 60 per cent of their diet to be from carbohydrates. Meals high in carbohydrates are known as high-energy foods, e.g., rice, pasta, yam, corn, cereals, etc. Carbohydrates are broken down by the body into glucose. Excess glucose is then stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. The World Health Organisation describes health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of diseases or infirmity”. Good health starts with making good choices, which leads to good health habits. Physical Health deals with maintaining the condition of your body, which requires the following: – Eating balanced meals – Engaging in physical activity – Practising good hygiene – Getting enough rest – Avoiding alcohol, drugs and smoking Mental health is the way that you cope with the demands of daily life and involves the following: – The ability to handle stress effectively and to solve problems – Openness to new ideas and new ways of doing things – The ability to adjust to change. Social health is defined by the way one interacts with people. How well an individual gets along with others is important to one’s overall sense of well-being. All parts of your health are equally important to overall wellness. Vitamins and Minerals Fibre Water This makes up 70 per cent of the body’s weight. It aids the digestive system. A lack of water could decrease the amount of food that is digested, resulting in fewer nutrients reaching the cells. Eight glasses of water must be consumed daily to replace water lost through sweating, urination, and breathing. The seven important nutrients must be part of the diet in the right proportions to make it balanced.
